As a mom of boy-girl twins, I’ve seen firsthand how effective reward systems can be in encouraging positive behavior, good habits, and goal setting. Since my children were 2 years old, reward charts have been a staple in our home.

Today, Iโ€™m excited to share a free printable marble jar system with you so that you can start implementing this in your own home!

What is a Marble Jar Reward System?

The marble jar reward system is a straightforward concept. Each child has a printable jar, and every time they exhibit positive behavior or complete a task, they earn a “marble” to place in their jar. Once the jar is full, they receive a reward. This could be anything from extra screen time, a special treat, or a fun family outing.

Why Use a Marble Jar Reward System?

  1. Visual Motivation: Children respond well to visuals. Watching their jar fill up gives them a clear, tangible representation of their progress.
  2. Positive Reinforcement: It encourages kids to focus on positive behavior, as they receive immediate, visible rewards.
  3. Goal Setting: It teaches children about setting goals and working towards goals, a valuable life skill.
  4. Family Involvement: Itโ€™s a fun way to involve the whole family in reinforcing good habits and behavior.

Step 4: Explain the System

Sit down with your kids and explain how the system works. Make sure they understand what behaviors earn marbles and what the rewards will be when their jar is full.

Step 5: Start Using the System

Begin the journey of positive reinforcement! Be consistent with awarding marbles and celebrate when they reach their goals.

Tips for Success

  1. Be Consistent: Consistency is key to the success of the marble jar system. Make sure to award marbles promptly and fairly.
  2. Involve Your Kids: Let your children have a say in the rewards. This will make them more excited and motivated to fill their jars.
  3. Celebrate Achievements: When a jar is full, celebrate! Make a big deal out of it to reinforce the positive behavior.
  4. Adjust as Needed: If you find certain tasks are too easy or too hard, adjust the system. The goal is to keep it challenging but achievable.

Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool for kids, as it encourages good behavior and builds self-esteem by rewarding their efforts and achievements.
